Music throughout is an awesome addition to any home. Play your favorite playlist throughout your home while you clean. Play the game on the patio why you are working in the yard. Have your “party playlist” in every room with guests. Whole house audio can be achieved in many different fashions.

Define Your Music Zones Before Choosing the Speakers

A whole house audio system works best when the zones reflect your routines. The kitchen and great room may often play together, while an office or bedroom needs its own source and volume. A patio may join the party without disturbing someone indoors. Think about which spaces should share music, which need independence, and who will use the controls.

Speaker count and zone count are different decisions. Several speakers may cover one large area, while a small room may need a single stereo-input speaker or another appropriate arrangement. Coverage matters: spreading sound thoughtfully can make background music comfortable without forcing one pair of speakers to play too loudly for nearby listeners.

For a Phoenix home with indoor and outdoor entertaining spaces, plan the transition between them. Patio coverage, equipment suitability, cable routes and neighborhood consideration all belong in the design. AV By Design can help compare a centralized wired system, network-connected players, or a combination that suits the house and the music habits of the people living in it.

What We Do

Whole House Audio

The basic system would have the same audio play in every room.  Each room would have individual volume controls to adjust for the proper listening environment. Simple. Effective. Other options would allow you to turn each room on individually and select what audio to play in each room. This gives you a whole new level of control and listening pleasure.  One person can have Pandora playing in the game room while they are playing pool with friends.  Another person can be playing their iTunes music in their bedroom, while still another person is playing Deezer in the back yard while swimming in the pool.  Unlike the more basic system, the volume and audio selection for this type of system can be done through a mobile device, touchpad, control panel, or even the TV. The possibilities are endless.  Let Audio Video by Design help you decide what the perfect fit is for you and your family.

Give Every Room Useful Control Without Adding Complexity

The practical question is simple: can someone walk into a room and play the music they want? An app offers source selection and grouping, while a keypad or touch panel can make everyday favorites quicker to reach. Agree on room names, volume behavior and the few commands your household will use most often.

Source planning prevents disappointment later. List the streaming services, local library, TV sound and physical sources you want to hear. Service support, subscription terms and simultaneous playback limits vary by platform. Sharing a source among rooms is different from giving each listener an independent stream, so confirm both needs before choosing players and amplification.

The network also matters for streaming and control. Review wireless coverage where needed, wired connections where practical and the location of centralized equipment. A busy household needs the audio system to coexist with other network uses. If you want TV sound in adjacent spaces, discuss synchronization specifically: a system that groups music well may handle live TV audio with a different delay.

Create a Room-by-Room Audio Plan

A simple zone list makes the proposal easier to understand and gives future additions a clear place in the system.

Map Shared and Independent Listening

List each room and whether it needs its own music, only independent volume, or occasional grouping with other rooms. Add likely combinations such as kitchen plus patio. This helps identify the number of sources and amplifier channels required, while keeping the controls understandable for the whole household.

Choose Coverage and Appearance Together

Discuss architectural speakers, visible speakers and outdoor models in the context of listening locations. Ceiling height, room shape and furniture can affect coverage. Patio speakers should suit their exposure and be aimed toward your own listening areas. More output is not a substitute for thoughtful placement.

Leave Room for Service and Expansion

Zone count, speaker quality, cable access, outdoor runs and control integration drive cost. Central equipment needs ventilation and service access. If you plan to add rooms later, discuss spare capacity and wiring now. Keep a record of zone names and connections so changes do not become a guessing exercise.

What Our Customers
Say About Us

Whole House Audio Questions

Can different rooms play different music at the same time?

Yes, with a system designed for independent sources or streams. Other designs share one source while allowing separate volume control. Confirm how many people will listen independently, which music services they use and any account limits. That determines the architecture more accurately than simply counting the rooms with speakers.

Can existing ceiling speakers be reused?

Often, after checking their condition, wiring and compatibility with the proposed amplifier. Existing volume controls or unusual wiring arrangements may need attention too. Provide access to the equipment and known wiring locations; an assessment can show which parts are useful and where new speakers or cable runs would add value.

Is wired or wireless whole house audio better?

It depends on access and goals. Central wired speakers can keep electronics out of living areas, while network-connected products may simplify expansion in finished rooms. Wireless operation still needs suitable power and network conditions. Compare reliability, appearance, source flexibility and future servicing rather than assuming either approach is right for every home.

Can the game play on the patio while the TV stays indoors?

That may be possible with the right audio connection and distribution design. Explain whether you can also hear the indoor TV from the patio, because delay can become noticeable between nearby areas. TV audio synchronization deserves a separate review; Sonos documents this tradeoff for grouped TV playback on its systems.

Do outdoor speakers need different planning from indoor speakers?

Yes. Specify products suited to their actual weather exposure and installation location, then consider mounting, cable protection and the listening area. Phoenix heat and outdoor conditions make the manufacturer’s operating requirements relevant. Aim coverage toward the patio or yard rather than compensating with excessive volume that carries beyond your property.

The most useful system is the one that matches how your family listens, day after day.
