Using a combination of the latest audio and video technologies, we can create any size theater to suite your needs and budget.
Dive into cinematic grandeur right in your living room with our expert home theater installation – where every detail is fine-tuned for an immersive movie experience.

The best seat in your theater should feel intentional. Before choosing a projector or counting speakers, establish where you will sit, how many people will watch together, and whether a second row is realistic. Screen size, viewing height, speaker locations and sightlines all follow those decisions. A room that looks spacious on a floor plan can feel cramped once reclining chairs, walkways and equipment access are included.
A dedicated room gives you more freedom to control light and sound. A bedroom conversion can work well too, provided the design accounts for doors, windows, ceiling height and everyday access. In a Phoenix home, strong daylight makes window treatment part of the picture-quality discussion, even when most movie nights happen after sunset.
AV By Design can help you compare a large TV with a projection system in the context of your actual room. Projection offers a cinematic screen size, while a TV can be a practical choice where light control or mounting distance is limited. The goal is a comfortable, convincing experience at the seats you use, with a layout that respects the rest of your home.
Transform your living space into a smart home, where convenience and efficiency are just a touch away.
Love watching movies? Hate going to the theater? Let us show you how we can design and install a state of the art theater in your home. Using a combination of the latest audio and video technologies, we can create any size theater to suite your needs and budget. Think you don’t have the space? A small, unused bedroom will work just fine. “Bedroom Conversion Theaters” are a staple. They allow you to enjoy the theater experience and not lose the number of bedrooms for resale. This is the perfect compromise if you don’t have a dedicated space.
A theater is a connected design problem. The projector must fit the screen material, image size and available throw distance. Front speakers need a clear path to the listening area; placing a center speaker deep inside a cabinet can compromise dialogue. Surround and height channels have different jobs, so their locations should follow the chosen format rather than whichever ceiling bays are easiest to reach.
Room treatments and sound isolation also solve different problems. Treatments manage reflections within the theater; isolation addresses sound traveling into adjoining rooms and may require construction changes. Decorative panels alone should not be treated as a promise of a quiet bedroom next door.
Include equipment ventilation, a serviceable cable route and simple control in the plan. Discuss checking dialogue, bass balance and picture settings at the main seats during commissioning. Automated lighting can create a useful movie scene, but you still need a convenient way to pause, raise the lights or change a source without navigating several apps.
Bring room dimensions, a few photographs and your favorite viewing habits to the consultation. These three choices keep the design and proposal focused.
Identify the main listening position and the number of regular viewers. If you want two rows, allow for sightlines, riser design, ceiling clearance and circulation. A larger screen or more seats can change speaker placement and projection needs; establish the room layout before committing to equipment.
Ask for a scope that distinguishes electronics, wiring, mounting, seating, acoustic treatment and any building work. Restricted access in a finished room can add labor. Sound isolation, custom cabinetry and a second seating row may affect the budget more than an individual component upgrade.
Discuss accessible conduit where practical, labeled connections, rack space and ventilation. Future changes are easier when cables can be replaced without opening finished walls. Document which devices and formats the proposed system supports today rather than relying on a broad claim that every component is future proof.
A fully integrated AV system requires an in-depth design procedure to assure that all of the components
and sub-systems work together properly. Without a proper design, you may be subject to hidden charges later.

Terry Kohler, the owner of Audio Video by Design, has done AV work on both of my homes in the Phoenix area. He has done AV wiring, hung TV’s, installed speakers, added Control 4, and switches that allow me to control features in my home with my phone. His workmanship was professional and on time, and he did not go over budget unless I added work. I highly recommend him. You will be satisfied.
I called AV by Design to assist with a surround sound system. Terry was on time and very professional. He was knowledgeable and informative. In no time at all, I had a wonderful sound system that fit my style and budget. Thanks, Audio Video by Design. Great Job!
Terry has installed home automation throughout my entire house along with full surround sound speakers in my backyard. The customer service is excellent and so is the quality of the products he uses. I recommend him to anyone I talk to who wants any audio video in their home or business
We’ve used Terry for audio/video work for over 15 years. Now have Control 4 done by him too. Very happy.
We have surround sound outdoor speakers, and absolutely love Control4. Terry is great.
Never once was I concerned that Terry couldn't handle this job. He knew exactly what to do, and the results are immaculate...We have since had him back out to help with some other wiring projects and he is always friendly, prompt and efficient. I highly recommend this company for all of your AV needs. We will be hiring Audio Video by Design to come back out and install a complete home automation/control system for us. Thanks Terry!
No. Compare screen size, viewing distance, room light, installation depth and how often you watch during the day. A projector and screen can create a larger image, but screen choice and light control matter. A TV may be the more balanced solution in a bright or compact room.
Possibly. Suitable speaker locations, ceiling construction and a compatible receiver matter more than room size alone. More channels are useful only when the layout supports them. Review Dolby’s speaker setup guidance with the proposed seating arrangement before deciding between surround sound and an Atmos configuration.
Often, but the model numbers and condition need review. Confirm the receiver’s channel capacity, supported audio formats and video connections, then evaluate whether the speakers suit the room and intended placement. Reusing a good component can preserve budget for wiring, a better center speaker or room improvements.
Panels can reduce selected reflections inside the theater; sound isolation is a separate issue. Doors, wall assemblies, ceiling paths and ventilation can all transmit sound. If late-night listening is a priority, raise it during planning so construction options and realistic limits can be discussed before the room is finished.
Share the room size, seating goal, daylight conditions, equipment you own and a comfortable project budget. Photos of the screen wall and adjoining spaces are useful. AV By Design brings more than 20 years of audio video experience; meet the company and discuss the scope that makes sense for your home.
Clear answers help you choose a theater that fits your room, your household and the way you watch.
