Enjoy the view and adjust the daylight with motorized shades selected for the glass, furnishings and everyday use of your Scottsdale home.
Expansive glass can be one of a home’s best features until afternoon glare makes a desk, sofa or television difficult to use. Motorized shades let you adjust hard-to-reach windows and groups of coverings without moving from opening to opening.
AV By Design helps Scottsdale homeowners plan window coverings around both appearance and performance. The discussion includes what you want to see through the fabric, when privacy matters, how dark the room should become and how each shade will receive power. These decisions should be made together before sizes and finishes are finalized.
A wide sliding door, corner window and narrow sidelight create different installation questions. Mounting depth, handles, trim and the path of an opening door all affect the shade’s position. Several adjacent shades also need a considered approach to fabric alignment and the gaps between coverings.
In a Scottsdale living area, the best afternoon setting may lower only the shades receiving direct sun while preserving other views. Bedrooms and a dedicated theater may prioritize greater light blockage. Define those priorities by opening, then decide which coverings should move together from a wall control or supported scene.
Share your room photos, plans and priorities with Audio Video by Design. We can help define the equipment, wiring and controls your Scottsdale home needs.
A shade that softens light in a view-facing living room may be wrong for a bedroom used by a daytime sleeper. Fabric color, weave and openness affect the result. Light-filtering and blackout fabrics answer different needs, and blackout fabric alone does not prevent light entering around the edges.
Look at samples in the actual window when possible. Compare them from the seating area as well as close up, and consider privacy after dark when interior lighting changes the view from outside.
Custom window coverings reward early coordination. Photos and approximate dimensions begin the conversation; final selections require measurements and a mounting review.
Compare color and openness against the room’s actual daylight, furnishings and privacy needs. Keep room darkening distinct from filtered daylight. If a sleeping room or theater needs stronger light control, discuss mounting overlap and edge treatment alongside the fabric selection.
Wired power can be planned into new construction before ceilings and walls close. Battery options may be practical in finished rooms, but future battery access still matters. Consider shade height, size and frequency of use rather than assuming every opening suits the same power arrangement.
Review pockets, fascia, trim and hardware with the builder or interior designer. Make sure the shade can travel without interfering with handles or doors and that components remain serviceable. Final dimensions and fabric choices should be settled before manufacturing begins.
A schedule should support the room instead of interrupting it. Discuss when shades may move, which bedrooms need separate settings and how to stop or reposition a covering. Manual access at a convenient location remains useful even when shades are integrated with a wider system.
For a home used seasonally, review schedules before leaving and again on return. Daylight needs change with the time of year and household habits. Motorization makes adjustments easier; the installation should still leave you in control of the view and privacy you want.
Terry Kohler, the owner of Audio Video by Design, has done AV work on both of my homes in the Phoenix area. He has done AV wiring, hung TV’s, installed speakers, added Control 4, and switches that allow me to control features in my home with my phone. His workmanship was professional and on time, and he did not go over budget unless I added work. I highly recommend him. You will be satisfied.
I called AV by Design to assist with a surround sound system. Terry was on time and very professional. He was knowledgeable and informative. In no time at all, I had a wonderful sound system that fit my style and budget. Thanks, Audio Video by Design. Great Job!
Terry has installed home automation throughout my entire house along with full surround sound speakers in my backyard. The customer service is excellent and so is the quality of the products he uses. I recommend him to anyone I talk to who wants any audio video in their home or business
We’ve used Terry for audio/video work for over 15 years. Now have Control 4 done by him too. Very happy.
We have surround sound outdoor speakers, and absolutely love Control4. Terry is great.
Never once was I concerned that Terry couldn't handle this job. He knew exactly what to do, and the results are immaculate...We have since had him back out to help with some other wiring projects and he is always friendly, prompt and efficient. I highly recommend this company for all of your AV needs. We will be hiring Audio Video by Design to come back out and install a complete home automation/control system for us. Thanks Terry!
Yes, many finished homes have suitable options. The mounting surface, shade dimensions, power choices and control coverage need review. Battery-powered shades can reduce the need for new power wiring where the product and opening are appropriate.
Do not assume so. A fabric that preserves a daytime view may allow visibility into a brightly lit room after dark. Evaluate the actual sample and privacy requirement; a different fabric or layered treatment may be more appropriate.
Fabric opacity is only part of the result. Light can enter at the sides, top and between adjacent shades. A dark-room plan must account for mounting and gaps as well as the material itself.
Compatible systems can combine shade positions with lighting or entertainment scenes. Confirm the specific motor, control platform and functions together. Keep a convenient individual control for times when you want daylight without changing the room’s other settings.
The right combination of fabric, fit and operation depends on the room. These are useful questions to bring to a window-covering consultation.
